Welcome to the
Saarbrücken Graduate School of Computer Science
The Saarbrücken Graduate School of Computer Science provides an optimal environment for pursuing doctoral studies in computer science at an internationally competitive level. As a student, you undergo research-oriented training and experience a stimulating and scientifically challenging atmosphere. Advised by internationally renowned scientists, you can participate in one of the many research groups and find your way into top-notch research.
We offer a genuine doctoral program in English which was established in the framework of the German Excellence Initiative in 2007. The Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Saarland University runs the Graduate School in close cooperation with the internationally renowned research institutions:
- Max Planck Institute for Informatics
- Max Planck Institute for Software Systems
- German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI)
- CISPA – Helmholtz Center for Information Security
- Center for Bioinformatics
They are all located right next to each other on our Saarbrücken informatics campus (SIC). This unique research environment gives our Ph.D. candidates the chance to collaborate with well over 200 researchers at the postdoctoral or professorial level and close to 500 doctoral candidates, covering virtually all areas of computer science.
The International Max Planck Research School for Trustworthy Computing (IMPRS-TRUST) runs their fellowship program in close collaboration with the Saarbrücken Graduate School of Computer Science which is responsible for all Ph.D. candidates in Computer Science at Saarland University. IMPRS doctoral researchers are members of the Graduate School. The same goes for the doctoral fellowship program in software systems offered by MPI-SWS for those candidates in Saarbrücken. The Graduate School at Saarland University is also one of the possible home institutions for fellows in the cs@max planck doctoral program. CISPA also accepts applications for open Ph.D. positions directly. Each of these doctoral support programs administers their own admission procedures in close collaboration with the Graduate School.
